Richard “Rick” Brown, age 58 passed away on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021 after a lengthy battle with COVID-19.
Rick was born in Langdale, Alabama on November 21, 1962 and he attended Lanett High School.
He joined the Lanett Police Department in 1989 and he retired after 25 years of service. He then went on to work with Thompson Trucking.
Rick was an avid motorcycle rider and had been on many trips across the United States of America and Canada. His most recent trip was in May of 2020 and he traveled the four corners of the United States in 13 days. He also loved flying and had hopes of pursuing his recreational pilot license.
He is survived by his mother, Betty (Billy) Groover; father, Jerry Brown; son, Joshua Brown, Lanett; two sisters, Robin (Donnie) Gillenwaters, Lanett, Susan (Jim) Strickland, Birmingham; brother, Jerome Brown, Atlanta; stepbrother, Buddy (Fran) Groover, Lanett.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarence and Estelle Young and Avery and Mary Brown.
A Celebration of Life service will be he on Sunday, February 28th, 2021 at 2:00P.M. EST at the Lanett First United Methodist Church, 506 South 6th Street, Lanett, Alabama 36863. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 12:00P.M. EST until the service hour on Sunday. Due to the social gathering restrictions, appropriate social distancing practices and facial coverings or masks will be required for the visitation and service.
