Mrs. Frances Louise Holladay Simms age 96, of Lanett died Monday, May, 25th. She roller skated through the pearly gates of Heaven to be with her Heavenly family.
Mrs. Simms was born in Chambers County on June 19th, 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Harold Simms, her father, Clarence Posey Holladay and her mother, Amy Adella Holladay. She was the last of 10 siblings: sisters, Sue Oliver, Mattie Cantrell, Hattie Rearden, Ruth Britton, Jewel McClure, and Betty Jean Ison; brothers, Owen Holladay, Heyman Holladay, and CP Holladay, Jr.
Mrs. Simms retired from Playtex in Lafayette after 22 years. She was a seamstress and loved to sew. She worked part time for Charter Bank in West Point, Ga. where she retired at the age of 90. Mrs. Simms was very active and enjoyed sports. In her early years, she played basketball for Lanett High School. As an adult, she played softball with the Lanett Lady's Softball League. She loved walking, swimming, and roller skating at Magic Valley. Mrs. Simms was the first paper girl in the Valley and Lanett area. She was full of life and had a smile that would steal your heart. Mrs. Simms was a faithful member of Community Chapel Church of God. Her father, Posey Holladay helped start the family church in a tent.
Mrs. Simms is survived by her son, Gerald Mashburn of Lanett and her daughter, Trudy Simms Estes (Toney) of Lanett. Her grandchildren, Haley Estes Taylor (Brad) of Spanish Fort, Al., John Mashburn (Yusi) of Hoover, Al., Kristie Lynn Geist of Convington, Ga; her great grandchildren, Brooks Taylor, Aiden Taylor, John Cito Mashburn, Chase Mashburn, Shiann Giddens, and Gabriel Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Chattahoochee Hospice/ Margaret Pollard, West Georgia Hospice or Community Chapel Church of God, Lanett, AL
