Miss Bobby Alma Potts passed away at age 88 in the home of Betty Mason in Valley, Alabama. She had been in declining health for the last two years.
She was born and lived all her life in Shawmut, Alabama. She worked with the West Point Manufacturing Company in textiles just two blocks from where she was born. She later transferred to the Lanier Carter Mill where she retired after 30 years of service where she worked in the lab and the office.
She was an active member of the Shawmut Church of the Nazarene, where she served in several positions, but she enjoyed teaching the junior boys and girls the most. She also enjoyed singing in the choir.
Bobby was well known for her love of sports. At one time, she was a Valley cheerleader and played softball with Valley’s own women’s All-Stars under the leadership of Mr. Kent. She was an avid Auburn University fan.
Bobby had a great love for animals, especially dogs. She always had a pet dog if she was able to care for it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter L. Potts and Leah A. Potts; sister, Sybil Marks; brother, Tom Potts.
She is survived by one niece, Sandra Potts Lucas and her husband, James, Troy, Alabama; great nephews, Tommy (Ellie) Lucas, Helena, Jimmy (Renee) Lucas, Troy; two great-great nephews; several cousins; many friends; and special caregiver friends, Betty Mason, Lisa Smith, Donna Abney, and Ruth Brady.
Bobby will be greatly missed.
Due to social gathering restrictions, funeral services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to the Shawmut Nazarene Joy Club or to Chattahoochee Hospice.
