Lorena "Anmomma" Gauntt DeLoach
Lorena Gauntt DeLoach, affectionately known as Anmomma, was a shining example of love, selflessness, and faith. Born on December 26, 1923, in Tallassee, Alabama, she lived a remarkable life that spanned nearly a century before peacefully passing away on June 4, 2023, in Valley, Alabama.
Anmomma's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph DeLoach whom she married June 07, 1946. They were married for 65 years when he passed away in 2011. She was also proceeded in death by her parents Curtis and Vera Gauntt, and stepmothers Hanna Gauntt and Angie Gauntt. She is survived by her children Linda DeLoach Harris and Gary, Bill DeLoach and Teresa; her grandchildren Stacey Harris Parson and Wes, Mandi Harris Lee and Jeff, Chris DeLoach and Rachel, and Arlie DeLoach Partridge and Steven; her great-grandchildren Noah Causey and Haleigh, Mason Lee, Cailin Lee, Harper Partridge, Finley Parsons, Sayde Partridge, and Hayes Parsons; her great-great-grandson Lawson Causey; her brother Sibley Paul Gauntt and Mary; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish her memory for years to come.
Anmomma's strong work ethic and dedication to education led her to graduate from Valley Vocational High School in 1942. She then attended nursing school at Hillman Jefferson Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, now known as UAB, for two years, ultimately earning her certification as a Registered Clinical Dietician. She was a woman ahead of her time, serving as a cadet nurse during World War II and working tirelessly in the healthcare field for over three decades.
Her impressive career included 18 and a half years at Lanier Memorial Hospital and 12 and a half years at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Georgia, as a Clinical Dietician. Anmomma's commitment to her profession extended to her involvement in the Dietary Manager Association, where she served on both state and national levels and received numerous awards for her outstanding work.
Anmomma's faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted member of Langdale Methodist Church since 1945. As the oldest living member at the time of her passing, she served on numerous committees, including as chairman of the administrative board. She was a member of the Fellodian Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women's Association, and the East Alabama Emmaus Community. Her passion for serving others led her to be deeply involved with the Bread Basket, where she served on the board.
Anmomma's interests were as diverse as her talents. She loved reading her Bible, spending time with her grandchildren, crafting, tending to her flowers, and crocheting. Her selflessness shone through her creation of prayer shawls for seniors, wounded warriors, and those facing struggles in their lives. She believed that making and giving prayer shawls was a blessing that allowed her to share God's love with others and reach out to those in need. Anmomma was also a proud member of the Red Hatters Society, where she enjoyed the camaraderie and support of fellow members.
Lorena "Anmomma" Gauntt DeLoach's life serves as an inspiration for us all. Her unwavering love, selflessness, and faith-filled spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched and the immeasurable impact she made on her family, friends, and community.
