James Donald "Don" Rutherford

     Mr. James Donald “Don” Rutherford, age 85, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 at his residence. He was born on June 30th, 1936 in Opelika, Alabama to the late Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Scott Rutherford.

     Don is survived by his wife, Teresa Etherton-Rutherford; children, Roger Garner, Jason Etherton (Julie), and Carla Etherton-Moore (Russell); many loving grandchildren; brother, Harold Rutherford; sister, Brenda Pursley; nephew, Mike Rutherford (Jade); niece, Sherri Rutherford; great niece, Judy JoAnn Rutherford.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Steve Garner and Manuel Garner.

     Don attended Fairfax United Methodist Church. He was a United States Marine, serving in the Korean War. He was a musician who enjoyed playing guitar and piano and he also enjoyed singing. He loved animals and fishing.

     A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 15th, 2021 at 2:00 PM (EST) at the graveside in Fairview Cemetery. The Reverend Paul Messer will officiate. No visitation is planned. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Don to Fairfax United Methodist Church, 901 Boulevard, Valley, AL 36854 or to one’s local humane society.
