James Donald Tynes, 82 of Cusseta, Alabama, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was known to his family and friends as 'Jim' and to his school buddies back in the day he was 'Jimmy TB Tynes'. He always served God first, and was called to join Him in the Kingdom of Heaven on April 11, 2021. He was surrounded by loved ones in his final days, and passed peacefully with his wife Janette, daughter Debra, and son Darrin at his side.
Jim led a fulfilling 82 years of life, and touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was born in Key West, Fl on August 21, 1938 to Edward Franklin Tynes and Eulalia Gomez Tynes. He was raised to love Jesus and live life to the fullest. He spent his childhood playing football and baseball in the hot Florida sun and enjoying the simpler days of the past. His love for baseball led to him enjoying time playing in the minor leagues. He served in the US Army as a Medical Specialist; he loved helping others and saving lives. Jim was a proud veteran who loved his country. He then graduated from Biscayne College with a degree in Criminal Justice. His love for helping others and bringing peace to the community started his career in law enforcement with the Miami Police Department where he served 18 years.
Jim spent several years in Tennessee where his children, Jimmy and Debra, were born. He always talked so fondly of his children's childhood, you could tell that being a father was his greatest joy in life. Jim worked with Delta Airlines for 21 years and loved using his free flights to see our country. He enjoyed living on a small farm and then a garden home in Murfreesboro where he and his wife, Janette first lived together.
Jim met Janette through mutual friends who just knew they needed each other. They quickly realized that God had brought them together for a reason, and they were married on August 27, 1994. Their two families became one, and they enjoyed a loving 26 years of marriage together. Jim was often poking fun at Janette because he loved seeing her smile and hearing her laugh. He was a goofy, fun-loving man that could bring a smile to the stubbornest of people. Jim and Janette have five children: Jimmy Tynes Jr., Debra Tynes, Darrin (Michelle) Welcher, Marsha (Jamie) Coulter, and Jennifer (Chris) Carmack. Through their children, they have 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. To Jim and Janette, family is everything and they enjoy spending time with all their babies. Jim will live forever in the memories of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus his sister Olga, several nieces and nephews, and many many friends who love him like a brother.
Jim spent the last 24 years in Cusseta, Alabama with Janette and their pup Molly. He worked as a code enforcement officer in Chambers County for 11 years before retiring to enjoy time with his wife. Their home was often filled with friends and family; they love hosting get-togethers and having quality time with their loved ones.
Jim's earthly body will be laid to rest on April 15th at 2:00 PM EDT at Osanippa Church in Huguley. We know that he has been made whole again in Heaven, but those that want to honor his life here on Earth can attend a visitation at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley, AL on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM EDT. Anyone who knew and loved Jim is welcome to join his family at the visitation and the funeral. Brother Bobby Overton will lead services.
