Mr. Hobart VanValkenburg, 84, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021 at his residence. He was born on July 11th, 1936 in Danville, Illinois.
Mr. VanValkenburg is survived by his children, Hobie Dean VanValkenburg (Lisa), Howard “Buddy” Maddox (Paula), and Wanda Freeman (Robert); a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth VanValkenburg.
Mr. VanValkenburg was a decorated Vietnam veteran who served for over twenty years in the U.S. Army. Following his military career he joined the Lanett Police Department where he served for four years until he joined the Valley Police Department where he served for the next sixteen years, retiring as a Detective Lieutenant.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at 4:00P.M. EDT at Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett. No visitation is planned at this time.
