Doris Cook Garnett, age 95, of Valley, Alabama passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Mrs. Garnett was born in Fairfax, Alabama to the late William and Linnie Mangus Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard C. “Boochie” Garnett, Jr.
Mrs. Garnett worked and retired from the West Point Stevens Fairfax Mill.
Mrs. Garnett joined the Fairfax First Baptist Church at a very young age. Over the years, she was a very faithful and active member of the church. She taught Sunday school to the children for many years, sang in the choir, and was a very giving and generous member whose philanthropy touched many lives.
She was an excellent cook providing many amazing “home cooked” meals for her family. She loved her Atlanta Braves baseball, the University of Alabama football, flowers, and coloring.
She is survived by her children, Steve Garnett (Sherry), Debra Irvin (Danny); grandchildren, Charlie Irvin (Amy), Allison Fausz (William), Daniel Garnett (Michelle), Hannah Hall (Drew); great-grandchildren, Randall Irvin, Collin Smith, Lydia, Trinity, Moriah, Gabe Garnett, Parker, Gracelyn, Abbie Hall; brother, John Cook; and her beloved cat, Tiger.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 2:00P.M. EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Fairfax Cemetery. The Reverend Steve Garnett officiating. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 1:00P.M. EST until 2:00P.M. EST.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to the Fairfax First Baptist Church, 510 Denson Street, Valley, Alabama 36854.
