Mrs. Frances Noland Chew Obituary

Born Henrietta Frances Noland in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, July 18, 1926 Died December 2, 2018

She was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband, William Locke Chew, Jr. ( Bill ), originally from Birmingham, AL, an aeronautical engineer and active community participant in Tullahoma, Tennessee since 1953. Both became dedicated members of First Presbyterian Church after moving there from Hampton, VA.

She was the daughter of William Herman Noland of Tuscaloosa and Ethel Leigh Eatman of New Orleans, and stepmother, Grace Noland Commander. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Leigh Noland and William Arthur Noland and two sisters, Jean McCorkle of Daytona, FL, and Joy Gilreath of Birmingham, AL, and a beloved grandchild, Whitney Grayson Tuck of Tullahoma, TN. She is survived by one sister, Janie Spruiell of Niceville, FL, and four daughters, Lucia Flowers, Lanett, AL, Jennifer Petr, Largo, FL, Betsy Patton, Villages, FL and Carolyn McFall, Knoxville, TN. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Lindsay Flowers Murphy and William Russell Flowers of Birmingham, Richmond McDavid Flowers III of Walnut Creek, CA, Lauren Petr Cromer of Nashville, TN, Franklin Noland Petr of Louisville, KY, Addison Tuck Peterson of Dallas, TX, James Locke Sheffield and Neil Edward McFall of Knoxville, TN, and David William McFall of Los Angeles, CA, and 12 great grandchildren.

Frances was a graduate of the University of Alabama and an enthusiastic fan of the Crimson Tide. She loved animals, Jeopardy and talking to everyone she met. Those interests were sadly extinguished by the ravages of Alzheimer s over the past ten years but her cat, Marvin, age 20, remained at her side until the end.

After a long battle with the disease, Frances took off on December 2, 2018, on her journey to the Pearly Gates. They will know she has arrived when they hear her yelling  Roll Tide  and calling  Here, kitty, kitty.  May she find the rest and peace she deserves after suffering through such a debilitating and relentless disease for so many years and continue to live in the hearts of those who loved her.
