Mr. Alvin E. “Hip” Sanford, age 60, of Cusseta passed away on Monday, May 13th, 2019 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Mr. Sanford was born in West Point, Georgia on August 25th, 1958 to the late David E. Sanford and Dorothy Childs Sanford. He was also preceded in death by a step-granddaughter, Morgan Ivey.
He graduated from Lanett High School and when he was younger raced motorbikes in Penton, Alabama.
Alvin was a very sweet, kind and loving person who always had a kind and humble word or humorous story to everyone that he met. He was always willing to help others in any way that he could. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Cusseta Volunteer Fire Department.
His passions in life were his family, riding his Harley Davidson, and classic cars and trucks. He also held a brown belt in karate and practiced taekwondo.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Sanford; daughter, Karla Sanford; granddaughter, Lexi Sanford; sister, Dottie Sanford (Vince) Johnson; niece, April Johnson; stepdaughters, Crystal (Clay) Cook, Kathy (Daniel) Miller; step grandchildren, Emily Ivey, Jeffery Miller, Daniel Miller, Tyler Miller; special cousins, Elbert and Lily McCarley.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17th, 2019 at 2:00P.M. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett. His family will be receiving friends at the funeral hom Thursday evening from 6:00P.M. EDT until 8:00P.M. EDT.
